Welcome to The Killians Farm

Living in the country was a dream I have had since I was a young boy. My dream of living in the country started when I traveled to Grand Island, NY to visit family. My great uncle had a 40 acre farm. I really enjoyed the chickens and getting into trouble disturbing the hay barn inside. I was always fascinated with all the farm implements and general “stuff” in the barn. My cousins and I would wander around the woods and just have a great time.

At a young age I always thought of how nice it would be to live in the country away from the hustle and bustle of living in Southern California. Don’t get me wrong I loved growing up at the beach with family and enjoying the beach life but I always wanted to live in the country.

As an adult living in California I always had a garden when space allowed it. The neighbors all called me farmer Mike and always enjoyed the fresh vegetable I provided them with. Whenever I was in my garden I always thought of the great times I spent in NY and always wanted more land. I always thought how exciting it would be to have my own slice of heaven and fulfill my dream of having a farm where I could have a garden and farm animals.

My chance to start living my dream came in 2008 when our grand daughter was living in Tennessee. My wife had visited her and decided it would be a nice change of life to relocate to Tennessee. I could not believe what I was hearing, this might be my chance to have a farm with space to have farm animals and the garden I had always hoped for.

Everything fell into place, we visited Tennessee and I knew this is where my dreams could come true. After discussing or options we decided we would put our house on the market and cross our fingers as the real estate market was in a downward spiral. To our delight our house sold in a couple of weeks. The next month was grueling flying back and forth searching out the perfect property.

After viewing 30-40 properties we drove up on the property of our dreams. Fourteen acres, with a barn, storage shed, garden and plenty of room for animals. We were happy because the house had a wrap around porch and we could spend time reading with a cup of coffee and counting the few cars that drove by.

With a lot of hard work and sweat I prepared the barn for the first farm animals we would get. You guessed it “chickens”.  We now have a fond appreciation for “farm fresh eggs”. Next, came Jewel a dog we rescued from the local shelter. We had brought Ruby with us from California but she needed a companion to enjoy all the open space. Our next animals turned out to be Abby and Elle a couple of brush goats. We never thought how amusing they would be to watch but they always put a smile on our faces. After having the goats and chickens for a year we decided it was time to make another addition to the animal population and were given Zorro and Dolly, young donkeys. Here we go again, always a chuckle watching the two of them playing and running around. Time for another dog, we rescued Sierra that Ruby and Jewel could run with. As you can tell by the pictures we have added quite a few more farm animals.
